Judge orders 3 taxpayer-funded Trump administration ads to be pulled from TV and social media
The judge said the ads resembled partisan messaging and ordered their immediate removal from government sites and third-party distribution.
On Friday, U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Rochon ordered the federal government to pull three taxpayer-funded Trump administration ads, ruling they appear designed for political or propaganda purposes rather than public service.
A coalition including Common Cause challenged the advertisements, arguing Congress did not appropriate funds for the president's office 'to run a PR shop to help the President's allies and attack his perceived ideological opponents.'
The banned ads include '$5,000 to Americans,' 'Every Democrat Voted Against No Tax on Tips,' and 'Cost of Socialism,' with Rochon ordering cancellation of distribution through third parties including MAGA Inc.
Government agencies must remove the materials from official websites and social media platforms including YouTube and Instagram. White House spokesperson Lauren Bis called the ruling a 'lawless order to stop the administration from sharing patriotic videos.'
While declining to pull several other ads, Rochon indicated she could reverse her decision or ban additional content after hearing more evidence in the coming weeks as the case proceeds. The White House has defended the ads as public service announcements.
