Benito Juárez García, one of the most outstanding and significant characters in Mexican history, of indigenous origin of the Zapotec ethnic group, was born on March 21, 1806 in the town of San Pablo Guelatao (word that means deep night, currently municipality of Guelatao de Juárez), belonging to the jurisdiction of Santo Tomás de Ixtláncotoyol of the then Intendencia de Oaxaca.
