- Faced with blocked amendments, moderate Republicans accused House leadership of forcing the outcome after Speaker Mike Johnson resisted an up-or-down amendment vote on extending subsidies.
- On Wednesday, the House will hold a 5:30 p.m. vote on a GOP proposal that omits expiring ACA credits, while Lawler said, `When leadership blocks action entirely, Congress has a responsibility to act. My priority is ensuring Hudson Valley families aren’t caught in the gridlock,` Lawler wrote.
- The vote will be tight for Speaker Mike Johnson, who needs a simple majority and can only afford to lose three Republican votes, while Democrats whip members against the bill.
- Because of petition rules, a clean-subsidy vote likely cannot reach the floor until January 2026 at the earliest, and the House GOP proposal offers an alternative approach while the Senate’s response remains uncertain.
