John van den Brom will coach his Vitesse for the last time tonight in GelreDome. Yesterday afternoon the club icon heard that his contract will not be extended.

John van den Brom will retire as head coach of Vitesse after this season. There has been unrest in the boardroom of the traditional Arnhem club for a while now and that is reflected on the field. After financial problems, Vitesse is in a dismal last place in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. The Dutch coach was faced with an impossible task this season due to a hefty points deduction.

John Van Den Brom will no longer be the coach of Speed Arnhem next season. Returning last summer to this club where he is a legend, he underestimated the magnitude of the task.

The new management of Vitesse is saying goodbye to coach John van den Brom after one season. The former coach of Anderlecht and Genk stepped in last season while the club was in extremely difficult times, and this season he worked with a young group that had to swallow a lot of disappointments due to several points penalties. "I am not optimistic about how the club will continue," says the club icon, who played for Vitesse between 1996 and 2001.
