John Oliver to Guest Star on 'General Hospital' in 'Juicy' Role: See Photo
John Oliver will appear in multi-episode arcs on two daytime soaps after saying he wanted a dramatic role.
Late-Night host John Oliver announced on Sunday's Last Week Tonight that he has landed guest roles on daytime soap operas General Hospital and Days of Our Lives, fulfilling a playful ambition he first voiced earlier this year.
Oliver issued a humorous casting call on his March 8 show, admitting he was "filled with scorching-hot jealousy" after seeing ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith appear on General Hospital as the character "Brick."
Oliver's General Hospital appearances begin Thursday, July 2, with subsequent episodes airing July 3 and Monday, July 6; his Days of Our Lives episodes are scheduled for August 11, 12, and 14.
General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini praised the comedian, stating he "plays an integral character in the story," while Oliver described the experience as "a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show."
Clarifying that the casting is not a career shift, Oliver noted, "Soap opera-acting is not my Plan B," emphasizing he had specifically requested a "juicy role" involving murder or slapping.
