Jamia Millia Islamia moves classes online amid row over slogans raised at protest
Delhi Police detained 10 people as Jamia students pressed for a union election schedule and the university moved to investigate contentious campus slogans.
On Friday, Delhi Police detained 10 people, including Congress MP Imran Masood, after he arrived at Jamia Millia Islamia University to support student protesters demanding union elections.
Students began an indefinite hunger strike on October 12, demanding restoration of the Jamia Millia Islamia Students' Union , which has not held elections since 2006.
Controversial graffiti on campus walls included slogans like 'Free Kashmir' and 'VC Go Back,' prompting the Vishva Hindu Parishad spokesperson Vinod Bansal to demand action against those responsible.
Rejecting the controversial slogans, Masood asserted that 'Kashmir is an integral part of India' while supporting the students, as the university moved all classes online starting Saturday.
The hunger strike entered its 13th day on Saturday as students continue rejecting the administration's committee approach, maintaining their demand for a clear election timeline for the JMISU.
