Met Police told of allegations about Meghan's father, but did not share with other forces
The force says it did not share the claims with other agencies and is reviewing whether to refer the case to the police watchdog.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are reviewing their handling of a 2019 letter detailing allegations against Thomas Markle, considering whether to refer the matter to the IOPC.
In 2019, the MPS Protection Command received a letter containing allegations of offending outside the United Kingdom, specifically regarding claims that Thomas kept child sexual abuse images at his home in the Philippines.
The Met Police decided not to share these allegations with other law enforcement agencies, instead passing the letter to the office of the Duke and The Duchess for their awareness. Thomas has denied the allegations.
Stating a letter was sent in 2018, the Duchess said she is "deeply distressed" by the allegations, highlighting the discrepancy between the 2018 claim and the 2019 receipt date.
Investigators are currently assessing whether the decision to withhold the letter from other police forces violated operational protocols, with findings determining if a formal referral to the IOPC is necessary.
