Middle East latest: At least 12 killed overnight by Israeli strikes in Gaza
- Israeli air raids during the night into Monday resulted in the deaths of at least 27 Palestinians in Gaza, targeting residences in Beit Lahiya, Gaza City, and Khan Younis.
- The strikes follow Israel's end of a ceasefire last month and a cutoff of all imports to Gaza's two million residents since March to pressure Hamas to free hostages.
- Among those killed was Abdel-Fattah Abu Mahadi, a Palestinian prisoner released in a ceasefire, whose wife, two children, and grandchild also died in Beit Lahiya.
- The Gaza Health Ministry and local hospitals reported multiple casualties, among them five young siblings aged around four, and highlighted that humanitarian supplies are dangerously scarce, with most people consuming only one meal or less each day.
- The ongoing conflict, triggered by Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023, has killed over 52,000 Palestinians, left much of Gaza uninhabitable, and shows no sign of ending soon.
