- On June 7, the NDLEA detained 44-year-old businessman Ezemokwe Chukwuebuka at Port Harcourt International Airport after a body scan revealed he had swallowed 53 wraps of cocaine while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Tehran via Doha.
- The arrest followed a body scan that tested positive for drug ingestion and came barely two weeks after a similar arrest of Chinedu Okigbo at Kano Airport with 65 cocaine pellets.
- Meanwhile, NDLEA intercepted other significant drug consignments across Nigeria, including 2,687kg of skunk in Cross River, 195 blocks of skunk in Bauchi, 14,410 tramadol pills in Lagos, and 157,800 bottles of codeine syrup in Port Harcourt.
- The suspect claimed involvement in the drug trade began two years ago, moving between West Africa and Iran, while NDLEA chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended officers for balancing drug supply and demand reduction efforts.
- These arrests and seizures signify ongoing NDLEA efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating regionally and internationally through Nigerian airports and ports.
