Iowa AG, Ring to give domestic violence survivors free video doorbells

Amazon-owned Ring donated 1,000 cameras with lifetime subscriptions plus $25,000 to help Iowa nonprofits support over 52,000 domestic violence survivors annually.

  • On Feb. 3, 2026, Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird announced Amazon-owned Ring donated 1,000 Ring X Line devices to the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence in Des Moines.
  • Nonprofit victim service programs in Iowa operate on 'shoestring' budgets while demand outpaces supply; 88 Iowans were killed due to domestic violence between Oct. 1, 2021 and Sept. 30, 2024.
  • Distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, devices go statewide through the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence's network of 25 victim service providers, with lifetime subscriptions and a $25,000 donation.
  • Community nonprofits will work with survivors to incorporate Ring devices into individualized safety plans, helping victims feel safe at home, Bird said: `Instead of being afraid and uncertain every time the doorbell rings or they hear a noise or a knock at the door, a survivor can know who's on the other side, or who was there when they aren't home.`
  • More than 50,000 victims received support last year, as Ring partnered with Iowa, one of the first states, donating devices valued at over $12 million nationwide.
