Inter Miami CF scores three late goals to defeat FC Cincinnati, 5-3
On Wednesday, Inter Miami rallied for a 5-3 victory over Cincinnati, extending its road winning streak to seven with Lionel Messi recording two goals and an assist.
Messi gave Miami a 1-0 lead at the 24-minute mark after a deflection off Matt Miazga, but Cincinnati responded with goals from Denkey, Bucha, and Evander to lead 3-2 by the 64th minute.
Mateo Silvetti evened the match at 3-3 in the 79th minute, and Miami took the lead when Andrei Chirila collided with goalkeeper Roman Celentano, allowing German Berterame to score the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute.
Messi appeared to secure a hat trick in the 89th minute when his shot deflected off Celentano, but officials corrected it to an own goal shortly after the match.
Cincinnati's loss marked the first time in 64 matches since coach Pat Noonan took over in 2023 that the team lost despite leading after 75 minutes. Messi remains second in the league with 12 goals.
Lionel Messi appears to be hitting form just in time for the 2026 World Cup. The 38-year-old Argentine scored two goals for Inter Miami in the 5-3 win against FC Cincinnati and also provided an assist.
