India's services growth eases in September as demand cools, PMI shows

  • HSBC released the India Services PMI survey on October 6, 2025, showing growth eased in September to a Business Activity Index of 60.9.
  • The slowdown came after the sector reached its strongest performance in 15 years with a score of 62.9 in August, and was influenced by softer international demand amid increased competition and efforts to manage costs.
  • Despite easing, the index remained well above 50, indicating sustained expansion, while external sales grew at the slowest rate since March.
  • Chief India Economist Pranjul Bhandari observed that while activity in the services sector eased from its August peak, various indicators showed no evidence of a significant decline in the sector’s growth momentum.
  • The report suggests ongoing optimism with rising business confidence, supported by advertising, efficiency gains, and anticipated tax cuts despite moderated growth rates.
