- On Tuesday, the Confederation of All India Traders reported India's Diwali 2025 sales reached a record Rs 6.05 lakh crore, marking a major milestone for the industry.
- Following GST rate cuts, CAIT said 72% of surveyed traders credited reduced GST rates for boosting sales volumes, attributing the surge to GST reforms and strong consumer confidence.
- The breakdown shows sales comprised Rs 5.40 lakh crore in goods and Rs 65,000 crore in services, with traditional and non-corporate physical markets accounting for 85% of total trade.
- Nearly 50 lakh temporary jobs were created across logistics, transport, packaging and delivery sectors, and consumers reported greater satisfaction with stable pricing.
- Rural and semi-urban India accounted for 28 per cent of turnover, and CAIT said the surge is expected to continue through the winter, wedding and upcoming festive season from mid-January.
