Iran Begin Turkey Camp as Squad Prepares for World Cup Visa Process
Iran are training in Antalya and seeking visas in Ankara as they prepare for friendlies and a World Cup group stage in the United States.
On Thursday, Iranian national football team members visited the United States embassy in Ankara to submit visa applications for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Coach Amir Ghalenoei is preparing the squad in Antalya, Turkey, following a seven-week domestic league suspension after conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel began on February 28.
The entire squad applied for Canadian visas, with some players also submitting applications for United States entry; Iran is scheduled to play group-stage matches in Los Angeles and Seattle against New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino maintained that Iran will participate in the tournament, while President Donald Trump previously suggested it would not be appropriate before later telling reporters: "Let them play."
Iran will play friendlies against Gambia on May 29 and Mali on June 4 before Ghalenoei names his final 26-man squad, with Canada access required if the team advances past group stages.
