President Trump also authorized an immediate response from the country, ordering the State Department to mobilize support for affected communities in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica and the Turks and Caicos Islands, where widespread damage was caused to the storm, and fatalities were reported.
The town of Black River, Jamaica, was “literally destroyed” by the Category 5 hurricane, which also claimed lives in Haiti and Dominica and then made landfall in Cuba. Damage assessments are still ongoing, and a crocodile watch has been issued in Jamaica. The storm is currently heading towards the Bahamas and Bermuda.
