Man charged with murder after bow and arrow killing in New Jersey
A 44-year-old suspect was charged with murder, arson, and gun-related crimes after a fatal bow-and-arrow attack and a standoff involving a fire and evacuation, authorities said.
- On Saturday evening in Kearny, police found an unidentified man fatally struck by a pointed object near Kearny Avenue and Johnston Avenue, and a person of interest was tracked to a nearby home.
- Early Sunday morning, Hudson County Regional SWAT negotiated with the barricaded individual at the Kearny Avenue home, where a fire erupted; after extinguishing the blaze, he exited armed with knives and was taken into custody, the prosecutor's office said.
- Kearny police issued a shelter-in-place advisory that was later lifted as the Red Cross said at least four homes were evacuated and neighbors sheltered in a nearby church.
