Nineteen more removed to France under 'one in, one out' scheme
The Home Office has returned 26 migrants to France under the deal while over 10,000 crossed the Channel illegally since August 3, 2025, officials said.
- The Home Office announced on Oct 9 it had removed 26 migrants to France and admitted 18 in return under the 'one-in, one-out' deal.
- The one-in, one-out scheme aims to deter the 21-mile English Channel crossing by detaining people arriving by small boat and returning an equal number via legal routes since August 3.
- Two group flights saw 19 individuals returned to France, while the National Crime Agency carried out over 350 disruptions last year and Home Office footage was released.
- Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood warned migrants considering Channel crossings to `think twice before making that journey` as deportation flights ramp up amid Nigel Farage's Reform party surge.
- The pilot scheme until June 2026 includes a controlled legal route as crossings in the first 10 months of 2025 exceed prior years and will surpass last year's 36,816, edging closer to 45,755.
