History in Focus: High line

This photo of the Shoshone Power Plant was taken circa 1924. The Central Colorado Power Company began work on the plant in 1906. Construction of the 2 1/3 mile long diversion tunnel through the solid granite Glenwood Canyon walls started in January of 1907. Shoshone is unlike other hydro power plants in that it depends on river flow rather than on captive reservoir water. One date given for when the plant went into operation is June 6, 1909. In …
