Para-Archer Sheetal Devi Selected in Able-Bodied Junior Team for Asia Cup Stage 3

Sheetal Devi, born without arms, secured third place among over 60 able-bodied archers at national trials to join India's junior team for Asia Cup Stage 3.

  • On Thursday, para archer Sheetal Devi became the first Indian para athlete named to an able-bodied junior squad for Asia Cup Stage 3 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, December 10 to 15.
  • Last year she moved to Patiala, India to train under coaches Gaurav Sharma and Kulvinder Singh, refining technique with national teammates and adapting from shooting nearly 250 arrows daily to trials of 8 to 12 matches.
  • Competing against more than 60 able-bodied archers at Sonipat trials, Sheetal Devi finished third behind Tejal Salve and Vaidehi Jadhav, winning six of eleven round-robin matches to secure her team spot.
  • Coaches say Devi will compete at the Asian Games trials in January next year, joining Indian squad members Tejal Salve and Vaidehi Jadhav, with belief she can achieve selection.
  • Earlier this year she won the World Para Archery Championship title and holds a 2024 Paris Paralympics mixed-team bronze, underscoring her rising form.
