'Emily in Paris' Actor Pierre Deny Dies After 'Sudden' Case of ALS

The French actor was best known for playing Louis de Léon in Netflix’s series and was described by his family as having a sudden, severe case of ALS.

  • French actor Pierre Deny died May 25 at age 69 following a sudden and severe case of ALS, his family confirmed in a statement to The Daily Mail on May 27. Deny was best known for playing JVMA CEO Louis de Léon in seasons 3 and 4 of Netflix's Emily in Paris.
  • ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting the brain and spinal cord, claimed Deny after decades in entertainment. He began his career in the 1980s with theatre before appearing as Dr. Renaud Dumaze in more than 500 episodes of Tomorrow is Ours between 2017 and 2023.
  • Bulgarian-French singer and actress Sylvie Vartan, who starred with Deny in a 2015 stage production of Isabelle Mergault's play, wrote on Instagram: "He was a generous actor and a sensitive and funny man." Deny was also known for his role as Captain Philippe Kremen in Julie Lescaut.
  • Luce Mouchel, Deny's seven-year co-star on Tomorrow is Ours, posted May 26 that their shared life "should not have ended so quickly and so brutally." Raphael Benoliel described Deny as a "great artist" and "magnificent person" who shared his passion for soccer.
  • Deny joins a decades-long line of public figures affected by ALS, from Lou Gehrig in 1939 to actor Eric Dane, who died in February at age 53. The progressive disease continues to impact celebrities worldwide.
