ICE agent is indicted after striking, injuring immigrant with his vehicle in Houston
The district attorney’s office will outline the case after an ICE vehicle struck Miguel Parra Hernandez during a pursuit of another suspect.
On Friday, a Harris County grand jury indicted the ICE officer who struck Miguel Parra Hernandez with a vehicle on October 10; Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare will discuss the charges at a news conference this morning.
Pursuing a suspect, Jose Mendoza-Cervantes, led federal agents to the scene near Clay Road and Highway 6; however, reports indicate the target died nine years ago, and attorney Kim Bruno says Hernandez had no connection to him.
Surveillance video described by Teare showed an "intentional" strike by the ICE vehicle; Teare also noted agents left the scene with the vehicle before investigators could obtain forensic evidence, hindering the probe into agent Mario Morales.
A 10:30 a.m. press conference today, Friday, will feature Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare and Sheriff Ed Gonzalez; officials previously struggled to access the vehicle as DHS and ICE remained "unresponsive" to search warrants.
DHS confirmed the target had four prior arrests, yet the case continues to highlight tensions between local investigators and federal agencies regarding the incident and the vehicle's removal from the scene.
