DAMASCUS, July 27 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for the immediate lifting of all remaining sanctions against Syria and for international support for the country's reconstruction efforts.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for a complete lifting of sanctions on the war-torn country during his two-day visit to Syria. He welcomed "measures that have allowed sanctions to be eased" in Damascus on Sunday. But he said "all sanctions must be lifted immediately," Guterres said. It was the first visit by a UN chief to Syria since 2009.
