Calles previously went by the name Reginald Kane Jackson. He formally changed his name in 2019. He had an extensive arrest history from California before arriving in Oregon around 2012, as well as a history of mental illness, court records indicate.Calles had made threats to staff at the hospital in the days leading up to the shooting.
