- Graham Linehan, a 56-year-old Irish comedy writer best known for Father Ted, attended a hearing at a London magistrates' court on Monday, where he faced charges of harassing and damaging property belonging to a transgender activist.
- The allegations followed Linehan's attendance at the London Battle of Ideas conference on 19 October last year where the disputed phone damage reportedly occurred, while the harassment claims relate to social media posts between 11 and 27 October.
- Linehan denied the accusations, entering not guilty pleas for both charges and stating outside court that he has defended women's and children's rights against a ‘dangerous ideology’ for six years amid ongoing threats and abuse.
- He was granted bail with conditions forbidding any direct or indirect contact with Sophia Brooks, the 18-year-old transgender activist, and the trial is scheduled for 4 and 5 September at the same court.
- Linehan wore a T-shirt displaying a Daily Telegraph front page titled 'Trans women are not women' upon leaving court, where supporters applauded him, highlighting his outspoken role in public debates on gender identity and its consequences for his career.
