Grab to Buy Foodpanda's Taiwan Business for US$600 Million
Grab will pay $600 million in cash for foodpanda Taiwan, marking its first market outside Southeast Asia and expected to add $60 million in adjusted EBITDA by 2028.
- On Monday, Grab Holdings said it will buy Foodpanda Taiwan from Delivery Hero for $600 million, marking its first expansion outside Southeast Asia.
- Facing shareholder demands, Delivery Hero described the Taiwan sale as an initial step, with CEO Niklas Oestberg saying it was 'a key first step' in the group's strategic review.
- The deal is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the second half of this year, with Grab aiming to migrate users by early 2027 and adding US$60 million incremental adjusted EBITDA in 2028.
- Grab said it will operate in 21 Taiwanese cities after the deal, inheriting Foodpanda Taiwan, which generated about US$1.8 billion in GMV in 2025, in a market where Uber Eats is a major player.
- As part of a broader expansion strategy, Grab is pursuing artificial intelligence, newer services and selective overseas deals after targeting more than 20% annual revenue growth, Reuters reported.
