Got a Bank Deposit From "Lopez Voice Assistant"? It's an Apple Settlement — Not a Scam.
Apple is issuing payments averaging $8.02 per Siri-enabled device to settle claims of unauthorized voice recordings shared with advertisers.
Since Saturday, Apple users are seeing direct deposits labeled 'Lopez Voice Assistant' hit accounts, confirmed by Apple-focused site 9to5Mac as part of the class settlement, not a scam.
Dec. 13, 2024 filings show Apple Inc. agreed to a preliminary settlement filed in Oakland, California, resolving claims from Fumiko Lopez alleging Siri captured private conversations.
Claimants could submit claims for up to five devices, with payments averaging $8.02 per device and a maximum payout of $40.10, according to 9to5Mac.
Recipients should check spam folders for emailed instructions if they chose prepaid gift card or check, while Apple Inc. denies wrongdoing and says it agreed to the payout to avoid costly litigation.
The settlement covers owners of Siri-enabled devices bought between Sept. 17, 2014, and Dec. 31, 2024, including iPhone, iPad, HomePod, and others, as outlined in the Lopez v. Apple Inc. case.
