Google Aims To Reinvent The Laptop With Gemini-First Googlebook
Google says the new platform will bring Android 17 and Gemini features to laptops as Dell, Acer, Asus, HP and Lenovo prepare devices.
On Tuesday, Google unveiled the Googlebook, a new class of AI-centric laptops built around Gemini Intelligence to offer proactive, personalized user assistance and deep Android integration.
Alexander Kuscher, senior director of Android tablets and laptops at Google, confirmed that Chromebooks will remain supported until 2034, though the new platform represents a strategic shift toward unified Android hardware.
Googlebooks feature a 'Magic Pointer,' an AI-powered cursor that surfaces contextual Gemini suggestions when wiggled, plus a rainbow-hued 'Glowbar' LED and 'Create My Widget' for custom interfaces.
The platform enables users to virtualize Android phones directly on the laptop desktop, with hardware partners Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo committed to manufacturing the first devices.
Google plans to share further app ecosystem details closer to Fall 2026 launch, marking a strategic pivot 15 years after the original Chromebook debut toward AI-native hardware.
