Getty Images Announces Display Partnership with OpenAI
Getty Images said its licensed libraries will appear in ChatGPT search and discovery, giving users richer visual responses from permissioned content.
Getty Images announced a "display agreement" with OpenAI on Sunday, allowing licensed content libraries to appear across ChatGPT's search and discovery experiences.
CEO Craig Peters said the partnership aims to deliver richer visual experiences, noting "High-quality, licensed visual content makes AI-powered search and discovery more useful and more trustworthy."
Shares of Getty soared more than 150% in premarket trading early Monday, settling at $1.35 per share, up 123% from Friday's close.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, and it remains unclear whether OpenAI will be permitted to use Getty's images to train its AI models.
This deal follows Getty's 2023 lawsuit against Stability for alleged copyright violation, though Getty previously noted AI has the "potential to stimulate creative endeavors.
The images on ChatGPT are usually from Google, but it's about to change. OpenAI's AI will become more relevant through a partnership, and offer better contextualized images.
