The first frigate was supposed to hand over a Dutch shipyard to the Navy in 2028. Due to internal problems of the contractor the delivery was postponed.
In order to strengthen the Bundeswehr, the Ministry of Defence orders six modern frigates of type F126. In three years the first ship is actually to be handed over to the Navy. However, there are delays in construction. A shipyard involved in the project is apparently in a difficult position.
Reuters reported the change in the government's plans in Berlin, citing German military sources. The F-127 frigates are to replace three F-124 Sachsen-class ships, which were commissioned between 2004 and 2006. The F-127s are to primarily perform air and missile defense duties.
