For centuries there have been rides in Traunstein in honour of St. George. On Easter Monday several hundred decorated horses with their riders came to the traditional Georgiritt.
Riders from near and far had come to the comeback of the Georgiritt in Ellingen. For decades, the event was a matter of course part of the life of the German Ordensstadt, perhaps it will be like this again soon.
The horses wear floral ornaments and bows: for centuries they have been riding in Traunstein in honour of Saint George. On Easter Monday, numerous spectators came to the traditional ride.
Hundreds of festively decorated roasters move on Easter Monday (10.00 am) during the traditional Georgi ride through the Upper Bavarian Traunstein to the Ettendorfer Kircherl. They are accompanied by music bands. During the Easter ride in honour of St. George as patron saint of horses and riders, people traditionally ask for the blessing for animals, field work and the local stable.
