Gene Simmons of Kiss Visits Detroit Rock City to Open New Restaurant Location
Gene Simmons said the opening was a homecoming as he and Paul Stanley expand Rock & Brews, which launched in 2010 and now spans multiple states.
On Thursday, April 9, Kiss bassist Gene Simmons arrived in Royal Oak, Michigan, to celebrate the grand opening of Rock & Brews, a multi-level restaurant co-founded by Simmons and bandmate Paul Stanley.
Calling the visit a "homecoming," Simmons noted Detroit accepted Kiss before New York, as the band recorded part of their seminal live album Alive in the Motor City.
Representing the 20th franchise in the chain founded 14 years ago, the 12,000-square-foot site at 208 Fifth is operated by local franchisees Tony and Danny Yezbick and radio personality Drew Lane.
For the grand opening, 100 fans selected in a random drawing attended the ribbon-cutting and met Simmons, who promoted the restaurant's Demon Burger, named after his famed Kiss character.
Simmons told the Free Press that Detroit and outlying areas "gave birth to America's music," citing legends like Aretha Franklin, Eminem, and Bob Seger as integral to the city's pop culture.
