Google Introduces "Skills" in Chrome to Make Gemini Prompts Instantly Reusable
Google says Skills let Chrome users save and reuse Gemini prompts across webpages, with more than 50 preset workflows in a built-in library.
On Tuesday, Google introduced Skills for Chrome desktop, a feature allowing users to save and reuse Gemini AI prompts to eliminate repetitive typing across web pages.
Chrome product manager Hafsah Ismail explained that users previously had to re-enter identical prompts when visiting different pages, forcing manual copying or retyping of frequently used instructions.
Users access stored prompts by typing a forward slash or clicking the plus button in the Gemini sidebar, with saved tools syncing across desktop devices and a library of more than 50 pre-built presets.
To ensure safety, Skills require explicit user confirmation before performing sensitive actions like sending emails or adding calendar events, protecting users while allowing AI interaction with browser tasks.
Currently rolling out to desktop users with language set to US English, the feature reflects Google's continued integration of advanced AI into Chrome amid intensifying browser competition.
