Efteling in the Netherlands has set an opening date for its 31st fairytale, the Princess and the Pea, in the Fairytale Forest. Opening on 14 May, the 31st fairytale installation at Efteling is based on the 1835 story by Hans Christian Andersen in which a princess sleeps in a bed with 20 mattresses and 20 blankets – and a pea hidden at the bottom. The well-known voice of Wieteke van Dort was the sound of the Fairytale Forest for years. Think of Little Red Riding Hood or Rapunzel. Now Efteling has opted for a different tone: a poetically sung story with music by house composer René Merkelbach, who also wrote the lyrics together with Efteling designer Karel Willemen.
