After Humbling Loss, No. 16 Florida and Coach Jon Sumrall Try to Move on and Get Set for Gamecocks
Jadan Baugh apologized after being held to 13 yards on 12 carries, and Florida’s running game finished with 42 yards in the loss.
- Following a stunning 45-17 loss to Missouri on Saturday, Florida Gators running back Jadan Baugh sent head coach Jon Sumrall a text message apologizing for his performance. Baugh, a Heisman Trophy contender, managed only 13 yards on 12 carries.
- Florida entered the game 4-0 and ranked in the top 10, but complacency plagued the team after early success. Baugh had previously posted 600 yards and 11 touchdowns through the first four games.
- The Gators' defense surrendered 560 yards, including 220 rushing, while Missouri quarterback Austin Simmons threw for 340 yards. Sumrall called the offensive line performance the "most exposed" it has looked all season.
- Sumrall praised Baugh's accountability, saying "You have a great appreciation for guys that want to step up and go." The loss also snapped a 10-game scoring streak for the Gators.
- The Gators return home Saturday to face South Carolina, seeking a bounce-back win. Defensive coordinator Brad White said "everything's up for adjustment" regarding scheme and personnel changes.
