4th of July Gas Prices Projected to Be Second Highest Ever According to GasBuddy
GasBuddy said the forecast is 65 cents above last year as six straight weeks of declines continue and global oil markets remain uncertain.
On Thursday, GasBuddy projected the national average gas price will reach approximately $3.75 per gallon on July 4, marking the second most expensive Independence Day on record behind the $4.80 peak in 2022.
Prices recently fell below $70 a barrel after the U.S. Department of Treasury authorized Iranian oil sales, enabling six consecutive weeks of national average declines following a spring spike driven by Strait of Hormuz closures.
AAA projects 72.2 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles for the holiday, with 61.4 million people driving to their destinations nearly matching last year's figures.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission projects more than 6.54 million motorists will use the roadway through July 5, prompting crews to suspend all work impacting open lanes starting Friday.
AccuWeather forecasts high temperatures reaching 97 on Wednesday before easing to 89 on July 4, when clouds and a possible thunderstorm could affect holiday festivities.
