BRONX, JUL 31 – Officials and fellow first responders honored NYPD officer Didarul Islam at a Bronx funeral; over $200,000 has been raised for his family, police said.
- On Thursday, a funeral service will be held at Parkchester Jame Masjid in the Bronx for NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, one of four killed in Monday's shooting in Midtown Manhattan.
- Officer Islam was off duty working a security job when a gunman opened fire at 345 Park Avenue Monday evening, fatally shooting him.
- Service schedule begins with female mourners from 10 to 11 a.m. and male mourners from 11 a.m. to noon at Parkchester Jame Masjid, followed by a prayer service and interment at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa, New Jersey.
- More than $200,000 has been raised for Islam's family, and Chuck Schumer said Tuesday, `You are not alone. All of New York grieves with you.`
- Beyond the service, his death marks a tragic milestone as the first NYPD officer of Bangladeshi descent killed in the line of duty, and his wife is due with their third child next month.
