Swiggy Instamart Gets 9 FSSAI Notices Following Customer Complaints on Contaminated Food, Milk
The regulator cited complaints of expired and contaminated products and ordered Swiggy Instamart to explain its quality controls and compliance systems.
- On Saturday, The Food Safety & Standards Authority of India issued nine notices to Swiggy Instamart following multiple consumer complaints alleging violations of the FSS Act 2006.
- Consumers reported that Swiggy Instamart supplied unsafe products, including "Healthify 100% Whey Protein 1 kg" and "Noice Homestyle Madras Mixture with Peanuts" past their expiry dates, alongside spoiled paratha and contaminated Akshayakalpa Organic Eggs.
- Systemic concerns regarding 10 traceability areas, including seller onboarding and compliance verification, were raised by the regulator, which noted that "no satisfactory response, grievance redressal or corrective action was taken despite the complaints being forwarded or escalated."
- FSSAI ordered the platform to submit evidence of corrective and preventive actions and internal controls, warning that failure to comply may trigger legal proceedings.
- The notices also identified issues regarding invalid FSSAI Licence Number usage and products marketed under unapproved categories, such as NOICE Eggs, which the company was previously directed to rectify.
