DODA DISTRICT, JAMMU AND KASHMIR, INDIA, JUL 15 – Five people died and 17 were injured when a tempo lost control on a hazardous mountain curve, highlighting risks from bad roads and overspeeding, officials said.
- A tempo traveller lost control and skidded off the Doda-Bharth road near Ponda in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning, plunging into a deep gorge.
- The accident occurred around 9 am when the overloaded vehicle negotiated a blind curve, causing the driver to lose control and crash.
- Five passengers, including a 60-year-old woman, died on the spot or later in hospital, while 17 others were injured and hospitalized at Government Medical College, Doda.
- Union Minister Jitendra Singh and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha offered their sympathies, with Singh stating on X that additional support will be made available if needed, while the Doda Deputy Commissioner is overseeing the rescue operations firsthand.
