Ford fends off Hyundai to retain No. 3 U.S. sales position in third quarter

Ford’s trucks and Maverick hybrid gained ground as supply disruptions and model phaseouts weighed on sales, while Hyundai Motor Group rose 5.4%.

  • On Friday, Ford Motor retained its No. 3 U.S. sales position for the third quarter, reporting 507,395 light-duty vehicle sales and fending off Hyundai Motor Group, which sold 506,200 units.
  • A forecast last week by Cox Automotive had predicted Hyundai would overtake the Detroit automaker in quarterly sales for the first time, raising expectations of a historic market shift.
  • Ford's Maverick Hybrid set a quarterly sales record of 27,793 trucks, up 59.6%, while Bronco posted record third-quarter sales of 38,020 SUVs, anchoring the company's retail performance.
  • Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model e, said the company delivered a "solid quarter" and gained retail share after adjusting for the planned phase-out of Escape and Corsair models.
  • The automaker continues recovering from supplier fires at Novelis that cost $1.5 billion in 2026, while a separate disruption halted F-150 production at two assembly plants in September.
