Food recalls became more widespread and more deadly in 2024, report finds
Contaminated food is causing increasing illnesses in the United States, leading to more hospitalizations and deaths, according to the Public Interest Research Group.
In 2024, there were approximately 300 food recalls linked to nearly 1,400 illnesses, as reported by the Public Interest Research Group.
The report revealed that 487 people were hospitalized and 19 died from contaminated food, doubling both figures from 2023, as noted by the Public Interest Research Group.
Recalls related to Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli increased by more than 40% in 2024, highlighting food safety issues, according to an expert's statement.
