UK grocery inflation hits highest level since February 2024, says Kantar
UNITED KINGDOM, JUN 25 – Grocery sales rose 4.1% year-on-year despite 4.7% inflation, with shoppers making 490 million trips in June, the highest since March 2020, Kantar data shows.
- Inflation for groceries in the UK increased to 4.7% during the month leading up to June 15, reaching its highest point since early last year.
- This inflation resulted from rising commodity prices and employer tax hikes that supermarkets said added to overall cost pressures.
- Despite higher prices, shoppers made 490 million supermarket trips last month, averaging nearly 17 visits per household, the highest since March 2020.
- However, average spending per trip fell by 3 pence to £23.89, and overall grocery volumes saw their first annual decline of 0.4%.
