Florida set to carry out its 13th execution this year in the nation’s busiest death chamber
The state has already executed 12 people this year and has two more executions scheduled in September, officials said.
- Florida is set to execute William Frances Silvia, 61, today at Florida State Prison near Starke for the 2006 murder of his estranged wife, Patricia Silvia.
- Prosecutors said Silvia fatally shot Patricia Silvia and wounded her mother, Betty Woodard, at their home in 2006; courts later vacated his initial death sentence but re-sentenced him in 2018.
- Silvia would become the 13th prisoner executed in Florida this year, representing more than half of the 22 executions carried out nationwide in 2026.
- A final appeal remained pending before the Supreme Court as Silvia's attorneys with the Capital Collateral Regional Counsel argued the agency lacked resources for adequate legal representation.
- Florida has two additional executions scheduled for Sept: Harold Gene Lucas, 74, is set to die Sept 1, followed by Daniel Owen Conahan Jr., 72, on Sept 10.
