Florida Rep. Maxwell Frost assaulted at Sundance Film Festival event, police say
Christian Joel Young, 28, faces aggravated burglary and assault charges with potential hate crime enhancements after punching Rep. Maxwell Frost and making racist remarks at a Sundance party.
- On Friday night, Florida Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost said he was punched at a private Creative Artists Agency party at High West Saloon in Park City, adding, `He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off. The individual was arrested and I am okay.`
- Park City police say Christian Joel Young, 28, was denied entry and hopped a security fence to enter the invitation-only CAA party.
- Witnesses said the suspect shouted racial remarks, declared pride in being white, assaulted Frost and a woman by pushing her and punching a non-white guest.
- Young was arrested and booked into Summit County Jail on aggravated burglary, assaulting an elected official and assault charges; prosecutors are screening for hate-crime enhancements and Capitol Police have joined the investigation.
- Democratic House leader Hakeem Jeffries wrote `The perpetrator must be aggressively prosecuted`, while Sundance Film Festival condemned the assault during its final Park City edition.
