- In August 1988 Randolph attempted to break into the Handy-Way convenience store in Palatka where he had worked, and a struggle with manager Minnie Ruth McCollum escalated into a fatal assault.
- Investigators reported that Randolph admitted the attack after he was arrested shortly at a Jacksonville grocery trying to cash stolen lottery tickets, while three women eyewitnesses called sheriff's deputies.
- The Florida Supreme Court denied Randolph's appeals last week, exhausting state relief, and a final U.S. Supreme Court appeal remains pending after he argued restricted public records access and counsel consent issues.
- Florida leads the nation this year with 17 executions in 2025, while nationwide 43 people have already been executed and more than a dozen are scheduled through early 2026.
