First ever compensation scheme launched for postmasters affected by Capture IT scandal
The scheme offers up to £300,000 in compensation following a 2024 investigation into faulty accounting software that caused financial harm to former postmasters.
- The Department for Business and Trade launched the first ever Capture Redress Scheme for former sub postmasters, with applications open via GOV.UK as the government acknowledged 1990s damage.

- Post Office Minister Blair McDougall said `after over two decades of fighting for justice, postmasters and their families will finally receive recognition and recompense for the lives and livelihoods that Capture destroyed.`
- The rollout will begin with an initial test group of 150 claimants before full implementation; it excludes those with Capture-related convictions under review by the Criminal Cases Review Commission, and ministers thanked victims for helping design the scheme.
