Farage's rivals rule out standing in Clacton by-election
Only Count Binface has said he will run so far, leaving Farage as the favorite while a parliamentary probe into a £5 million donation is paused.
On Tuesday, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage resigned as Member of Parliament for Clacton, triggering a by-election he framed as a "people versus the establishment" contest amid financial scrutiny.
Parliamentary standards investigators are probing an undeclared £5m gift from crypto-billionaire Christopher Harborne; Farage's resignation paused the probe, which resumes only if he wins re-election.
Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party, and Restore Britain refused to field candidates, with officials dismissing the vote as a "desperate political stunt" designed to distract from financial allegations.
Comedian Jonathan David Harvey, performing as "Count Binface," emerged as the sole confirmed challenger, campaigning as a unity candidate and pledging to build "at least one affordable house."
If Farage is suspended for more than 10 sitting days for rule breaches, a recall petition could trigger another Clacton by-election, meaning this contest may not resolve ongoing financial scrutiny.
