5 dead in attempt to save a struggling swimmer in an Ohio river, sheriff says

On Sunday, five people died in the Scioto River near Powell, Ohio, after several jumped in to help a struggling swimmer, authorities confirmed Monday.
The incident began Sunday when one individual entered the river to swim; others jumped in to assist but also began struggling, Delaware County Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer said.
Rescue crews recovered two women Sunday who were pronounced dead at a hospital; three men's bodies were found Monday, said Delaware County Sheriff Department spokesperson Tracy Whited.
Two children under age 10 have been placed in family services care, including one who ran for help and was spotted by a motorist, Sheriff Balzer reported.
This tragedy occurred two days after a flash flood killed five family members during a hiking trip in southern Utah, drawing attention to water-related accidents.
