Ex-Reform UK leader in Wales to deny alleged Russian bribery charges
- Nathan Gill, the 51-year-old former leader of Reform UK in Wales and a former Wales MEP from Llangefni on Anglesey, faces eight counts of bribery for allegedly accepting bribes to make statements in the European Parliament that would benefit Russia.
- The charges stem from an alleged conspiracy with Oleg Voloshyn between January 1, 2018, and February 1, 2020, with evidence found on Gill's mobile phone after he was stopped at Manchester Airport on September 13, 2021, under anti-terror legislation.
- During a hearing at the Old Bailey in London on Friday, Gill's defense barrister, Clare Ashcroft, indicated that he intends to enter not guilty pleas to the charges.
- Gill agreed to 'receive or accept monies in return for him performing activities as an MEP,' and police indicated a professional relationship between Gill and Voloshyn.
- Mrs. Justice Cheema-Grubb set a trial date for June 29, 2026, and released Gill on conditional bail, requiring him to not contact Mr. Voloshyn and not obtain international travel documents, with his next court appearance scheduled for July 18 this year.
