- Rep. Chris Markey, a Democrat from Dartmouth, warned the statute creates an "ethical dilemma" for doctors due to conflicting case law. Department of Public Health data shows 99 abortions occurred at 24 weeks or later in 2024.
- Following the signing, Boston Archbishop Richard Henning faced pressure to excommunicate Healey, with an online petition from LifeSite collecting over 19,000 signatures since Wednesday.
- While church leaders labeled the law a "grave offense," the Archdiocese of Boston has not yet declared canonical discipline, and a spokesperson stated Healey remains a "governor for all people of all faiths.
