Eurovision organisers delay decision on Israel’s 2026 participation to December
- After meeting on October 13, the European Broadcasting Union announced the November vote on Israel's participation was postponed and will be discussed at the December Ordinary Winter General Assembly.
- Since late August, several broadcasters including RTVSLO, RTÉ, AVROTROS and RTVE have said they would withdraw if Israel competes, amid opposition linked to the war in Gaza and recent contest disputes.
- The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will be held in Vienna at the Wiener Stadthalle, with semi-finals on May 12 and 14 and the final on May 16, following Israel's second-place finish and 166 million viewers last year.
- To ease planning, broadcasters can confirm participation by mid-December without penalty, and ORF, Austria's national broadcaster, welcomed the decision ahead of the General Assembly vote.
- Even after the recent ceasefire and hostage releases, positions may hold as a simple majority of EBU members will decide, while broadcasters including AvroTros say the ceasefire won’t change their 2026 stance.
